Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said some 92 percent construction work of the Padma Bridge has so far been completed.

“Some 92 percent construction work of the main bridge has so far been completed and some 84 percent work of the project has been completed,” he said.

Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, said this while talking to reporters after visiting construction work of Padma Bridge at Mawa in Munshiganj.

The AL general secretary said that the bridge would be opened to traffic by June 2022 after completion of infrastructural work.

“The future development of the country will be designed centring the bridge. Construction of the Padma Bridge will bring a revolutionary change in the country’s communication sector,” he said.

This is not only a bridge but a sign of courage and self-confidence of Sheikh Hasina as the World Bank cancelled their allocation by raising false allegation, he added.

Mentioning that Sheikh Hasina is changing Bangladesh, Quader said the work of connecting road on both sides has already been completed.

“Power transmission line is being constructed next to the bridge. Construction of Toll Plaza Complex has been completed,” he said.

The construction work of the railway track has been completed by 78 percent. The work of four-lane road has been completed 61 percent, he added.

Talking over his dream, Quader said he wants to bring discipline in road and transport sectors.

Secondly, he wants to make Awami League as well-disciplined one to build Golden Bengal of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and implement Sheikh Hasina’s vision 2021 and 2041, and delta plan, he said.
