Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will stage countrywide demonstrations today in protest against the move to revoke the ‘Bir Uttam’ gallantry title of its founder Ziaur Rahman.
The party will hold protest rallies in metropolitan cities and district towns across the country.As part of the programme, Dhaka North city and Dhaka South city units of BNP will jointly hold a protest rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club at 10am.
BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain announced the demonstration programme from a press conference
at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office on Sunday last.
Jatiya Muktijoddha Council at a meeting on February 9 decided to revoke the ‘Bir Uttam’ gallantry title of Ziaur Rahman.
It had also decided to repeal the freedom fighter gallantry awards of four fugitive killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
