Police make epic comeback; MSC get successive win

Bangladesh Police Football Club made a spectacular comeback after going down three goals as they played a 3-3 draw against Chittagong Abahoni Limited in a Bangladesh Premier League match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.

Midfielder Rakib Hossain scored a brace and Brazilian forward Nixon Guylherme Rocha Brizolara added one to give Ctg Abahoni 3-0 lead before Police FC’s three Ivorians - Frederic Pooda, Lancine Toure and Ballo Famoussa scored one each to give their side one point from the match.

Ctg Abahoni got the lead after Brazilian forward Nixon sent the ball home with a right-footer in the 18th minute. Midfielder Rakib doubled the margin in the 20th minute (2-0).

Police FC got another blow after their defenders made a blunder in the danger zone and Rakib made no mistake to seize the chance and scored his second in the 49th minute (3-0).

Coming from 0-3 goals behind, Police FC Ivorian midfielder Pooda reduced the margin with a header from a goalmouth melee, off a corner by Kyrgyz midfielder Murolimzhon Akhmedov in the 58th minute (1-3).

Police FC captain Toure scored another with a header from goalmouth melee again utilising a corner by Kyrgyz midfielder Akhmedov in the 75th minute (2-3).

Police FC were rewarded by a penalty just a few seconds before the final whistle after Ctg Abahoni defender Monjurur Rahman Manik punched the ball to save a goal from the line.

Ivorian forward Famoussa made no mistake to equal the margin converting a spot-kick in the injury time (90+3 minutes) (3-3) and gave his side one precious point from the game.

Ctg Abahoni now have earned nine points from eight games while Police FC got eight points from seven games in the league.

In the day’s other match, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited came one goal behind to beat Brothers Union by 2-1 at the same venue.

Substitute forward Amir Hakim Bappy and Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored one each for the traditional black and white after Swedish-born Bangladeshi forward Joseph Nur Rahman netted one for the Gopibag outfit.
