Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque on Sunday said evidence of Ziaur Rahman’s involvement in the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be revealed on time.

“We term Ziaur Rahman as a murderer because of his involvement in the killing of Bangabandhu, but his party (BNP) rules out it. We will make evidence and information public on time in this regard,” he said.

Mozammel Haque, also a valiant freedom fighter, made the statement while addressing a press briefing at his secretariat office in the capital.

The minister came up with the remarks as the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) termed the proposal for stripping Zia of his ‘Bir Uttam’ gallantry title by Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) as a political vengeance.

On February 9, Jamuka proposed that the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs should cancel Ziaur Rahman’s gallantry award for assisting Bangabandhu’s self-declared killers to flee from the country and promoting the killers to higher positions.

The Awami League leader also said that Jamuka have made a proposal to revoke the title of Zia, but the liberation war affairs ministry will take final decision on it.

“You all have witnessed the proposal. We have made the proposal as we have the authority to make such proposal,” he said.

Replying to a question, the minister said there is evidence that Ziaur Rahman was involved in Bangabandhu’s killing.

“We will disclose related evidence on time. Just wait and see,” he said.
