Two more bodies recovered

Two more bodies were recovered from the charred ruins of a burnt-out chemical factory in Sreepur of Gazipur on Saturday, taking the death toll from the fire incident to three.

The deceased have been identified as Ashraful Islam, 50, son of Siraz Bepari of Awalpur Village under Delduar upazila in Tangail, and Mohammad Nasir, 39, son of Jahangir Alam of Tulatoli village under Daudkandi in Cumilla.

The bodies were sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

On Thursday, a devastating fire broke out at ASM Chemical Factory. The body of a worker identified as Alamgir Hossain, 30, was recovered immediately after the blaze was doused.

Abdur Rouf, assistant general manager of the factory, said that firefighters recovered the two bodies.

Of the two, Ashraful was a mechanic while Nasir was a worker, he said.

Khandaker Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said that a case was filed on charges of negligence in carrying out duties during the incident by the authorities concerned.  Police are now investigating the matter, he said.
