Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar urged the tour operators to come forward and take appropriate action plan to strengthen tourism sector.
He came up with the urges while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on developing tourism through digital technology, organised by Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) in the capital virtually on Saturday.Highlights the need to use digital technology in marketing and group tracking and to ensure WiFi network for tourists, the minister said that domestic and foreign tourists will be attracted by ensuring modern facilities. At once, tourists in the country were interested in tourism in limited areas, but travel-loving people are now increasingly interested in the country's natural beauty like Tanguar Haor, Sunderban, archaeological finds etc, he added.
A special tourist zone is being set up for tourists at Sabrang in Cox's Bazar, he stated.
He mentioned that stronger infrastructure will be built and investment will be boost in the tourism sector by increasing
the interest of foreigners in traveling to Bangladesh.
The infrastructure developed in the country in the last one decade is of acceptable level for foreign tourists, he added.
Bangladesh’s tourism sector will make a very important contribution to the economic development of the country, he said.TOAB has to play an important role in increasing investment in the tourism sector, the minister said. TOBA have to work on building skilled workers, infrastructure and digital technology opportunities to be used for the development of this sector, he said.
In addition to domestic tourism, special importance should be given to international tourism. The tourism industry is a very important sector to promote the country abroad. There are also huge employment opportunities in this sector, he added.
Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh President Md Rafeuzzaman presided over the meeting. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Ram Chandra Das and Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Jabed Ahmed spoke on the occasion.
