A Dhaka court on Friday placed Farzana Zaman Neha, another friend of Farah Madhuri who had allegedly been raped and killed, on a 5-day remand.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Satyabrata Sikder passed the remand order after the police produced her before the court and sought a seven-day remand for interrogation.

Earlier, Mohammadpur police arrested Neha from Azimpur area in the capital on Thursday night in connection with the incident.

Police said Neha was with the group in Bamboo Shoot Restaurant in Uttara on the night of January 28 and consumed alcohol there. She fall sick and left the restaurant early with another friend.

Madhuri, a student of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), and her other friends had consumed liquor at the restaurant and then they partied in another hotel at Gulshan where they took alcohol again.

The police suspect that liquor consumption by the victim and her friend might have been a major cause of the death.

Earlier on Thursday, another friend of the victim Shafayat Jamil (22) surrendered before a Dhaka court saying that he was also with the group in the Bamboo Shoot Restaurant on that night. Jamil also sought bail but the court sent him to jail rejecting his bail petition.
