3 pedestrians killed as two buses collide in N’ganj

Three pedestrians were killed when a bus hit another from behind on Kanchpur Bridge in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique, 20, Ohedul, 32, and Sajib Sarker, 28.

Kanchpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said the incident occurred as two buses of Borak Paribahan and Homna Paribahan got engaged in an ill-competition for picking passengers on Dhaka-Chattogram highway.

When the bus of Borak Paribahan was taking passenger from Kanchpur Bridge, Homna bus hit it from behind, sandwiching three people. “The victims were trying to cross the road,” the OC said.

Police rushed to the spot and took the three injured people to a local hospital where doctor on duty declared them dead.

The bodies were sent to Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital morgue.

The buses were seized but the drivers and helpers managed to flee the scene.

Kanchpur highway police station OC said they are trying to detain them.
