3 held with illegal VoIP equipment

Rapid Action Battalion-10 (RAB) in a drive arrested three members of a gang with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment from different parts of the capital on Wednesday and Thursday.

The arrestees are Rakib Hasan, 30, Babar Uddin, 30, and Kazi MM Mahmud Choton, 32.

The RAB men seized 19 SIM box devices, 416 GSM antennas, 3,400 Teletalk SIM cards, seven mini computers, three wireless routers, five Bangla Lion modems and routers, three laptops, a laptop cooler, 10 chargers, six TUSB modems and routers, 12 power cables, 24 conceal cables, three three-plugs, four multi-plugs, a mouse and four mobile phone sets from a shop and two illegal VoIP operating control rooms.

The seized things are worth about Tk 50 million.

Additional DIG of police Mahfuzur Rahman, commanding officer (CO) of RAB-10, briefed journalists on the matter at the battalion’s Kawran Bazar media centre on Thursday afternoon.

Some officers of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) assisted the RAB-10 during the raids.
