A 13-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by taking poison in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Sunday after she was reportedly raped on Friday night.
The deceased is identified as Azmeri Akhter Meem. Police arrested two boys—Shamir, 15, and Ashique, 17, from Kadamtali area in the capital in this connection on Monday.Shahinur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Jatrabari Police Station, told the Daily Sun that Meem, her friend Jannat and younger sister Mithila left their residence at Kazla in Jatrabari on Friday after Meem was scolded by her mother over family matter.
They went to Kadamtali and took shelter in a bus of Raida Paribahan at night, he said, adding that the staff members of the bus dropped them after a while. Then, they were walking in the area.
The police officer said at that time, three teen boys, who are vagabonds, assured them of arranging accommodation for the night. Believing them, the girls went to a house with them.
When the girls were sleeping, one of the three boys raped Meem.
In the following morning, the girls returned to their residence. After returning, Meem began to feel sickness.
On Sunday, Meem demanded Tk 20 from his father. After that, she went outside and returned shortly. After a while, her family members noticed that Meem was in a dying condition. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she died around 9:30pm. Her death caused of taking poison, the officer said.A case was filed.
