Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested two persons for carrying 2kg gold worth Tk 1 crore in the capital’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in the early hours of Saturday.

The arrestees were Kamal Parvez, 41, of Cumilla and Faridul Alam, 50, of Chattogram.

Alamgir Hossain, additional superintendent (ops and media) of Airport APBn, said a team of the battalion interrogated the duo due to their suspicious activities in the parking area near outside gate of arrival terminal-2 around 12:00 midnight.

He said due to their confusing conversation, ABPn members took them to their office at the airport. Later, they searched them and found 12 gold bars and ornaments weighing 2kg in their possession. The gold is worth around Tk 1 crore.

The APBn official said the arrestees were not air passengers. They are gold smugglers who receive gold bars and ornaments from passengers, staying outside the airport.

A case was filed with Airport Police Station in this regard.
