BEANIBAZAR: Nineteen Bangladeshis, including five women, returned from India through the Sheola- Sutarkandi land port in Beanibazar upazila on Thursday after serving jail terms for illegal entry.

They underwent health checkup at the land port. But since they did not show any symptom of Covid-19, the returnees were handed over to their families with strict directive for 14-day quarantine.

Border Guard Bangladesh said BGB-52 received the returnees. They were brought back at the directive of the Home Ministry thanks to the diplomatic efforts of the Foreign Ministry and assistance of Bangladesh mission in Guwahati in Assam.

BGB played the leading role.

On Jan 26, a group of 38 Bangladeshi children were brought back from India through Benapole after serving a two-year jail term for illegal entry.

All the returnees were aged between 12 and 15 years. Ten of them are boys and 28 are girls.

India’s Petrapole immigration police handed them over to Benapole immigration police.
