Detective police arrested five alleged muggers in connection with killing cable operator businessman Hamidul Islam in the capital’s High Court area.
A team of Ramna Detective Division of DMP arrested them from Kamrangirchar and Uttar Mugda areas on Monday, said AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at a press briefing at DMP media centre on Tuesday.The arrested are Sohel alias Arabian Sohel, Jahid Hossain, Shukkur Ali, Shakil alias Dumbas and Mohammad Sohel Mia. The law enforcers also recovered a knife, a battery-run-rickshaw, victim’s mobile phone sets and a wallet from their possession.
Hamidul, 55, also general secretary of Shahbagh Thana Unit and cooperative affairs secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Unit of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), was stabbed to death at Mazar Gate of High Court at about 8:30pm on January 23 on his way to his Segunbagicha residence.
Following the incident, a case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
In primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted to their crime.
