A library named after Shaheed Asad, the hero of the 1969 mass uprising, was inaugurated at Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday.

The library has been set up at Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall of the university to commemorate the 51st martyrdom anniversary of the hall's resident student Shaheed Asaduzzaman Asad.

Asad was gunned down by the Pakistani police during a protest against atrocities near Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal inaugurated the library as the chief guest while hall Provost Dr Syed Humayun Akhter was present among others.
