The vice-chancellors of four leading engineering universities could not reach a consensus over the admission test committee chairman and test centre to hold the cluster system admission for admitting students at the universities.
University Grants Commission (UGC) sources said vice-chancellors of three universities --Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) proposed to nominate the chairman and test centre gradually of the four universities to hold the cluster admission test every year.But Pro-vice chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) informed that they will take final decision within a week after holding an urgent academic council meeting of the university.
The BUET pro-VC came up with the information at a virtual meeting between UGC and Vice-chancellors of the four engineering universities on Wednesday.
UGC member Professor Dr. Muhammed Alamgir presided over the virtual meeting where RUET Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sheikh, CUET VC Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam, KUET VC Professor Dr. Quazi Sazzad Hossain, and BUET Pro-VC Professor Dr. Abdul Jabbar Khan took part.
Besides, UGC two directors Dr. Shamsul Arefin and Mohammad Jaminur Rahman and three professors from BUET joined the meeting.
BUET Pro-VC Professor Abdul Jabbar said there is no controversy over the ongoing admission system of BUET. We are paying high attention to avoid any untoward situation in proposed cluster system admission test. The engineering universities are going to adopt the cluster system admission test to reduce the hassle of admission seekers, he also said.
Professor Dr Alamgir said the result of HSC examination would be published very soon as the admission aspirants are worried over the university admission system. So taking a prompt decision in this regards will be beneficial for all.He called upon all the universities to come up with open mind for admission in cluster system. Earlier, the vice-chancellors and their nominated representatives from four engineering universities at a meeting held December 30 agreed to hold the admission test in cluster system.
