The fifth phase election to 31 municipalities across the country will be held on February 28.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Md Alamgir announced this at a press briefing at the Election Commission in the capital’s Agargaon area on Tuesday.The last date of submitting nomination paper is February 2 and the date for scrutiny is February 4 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 11.
Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used in all municipalities and voting in the polls will start on 8:00am and continue until 4:00pm.
Country’s total municipalities are 329 where 286 are prepared for elections and the rest 43 municipalities have different complexities and cases.
The first phase elections to 24 municipalities and second phase elections to 60 municipalities were held on December 28, 2020, and January 16, 2021, respectively.
According to the schedule, the third phase elections to 64 municipalities and fourth phase to 58 municipalities will be held on January 30 and February 14 respectively.
In five to six phases, the elections to all municipalities will be completed by March and April this year.After amendment of the Local Government Act, the first municipality election in a partisan manner was held in the country in 2015.
