Three submit nominations for Melandah mayoral post

JAMALPUR: Three candidates have submitted nomination papers to vie for the mayoral post of Melandah municipality in upcoming municipal polls slated on February 24.

The last day for submission of nomination papers was Sunday.

Melandah Upazila Election officer Anwar Mahmud said one each candidate from Awami League, BNP and Islami Andolan Bangladesh submitted their nomination papers to the returning officer.

The mayoral candidates are incumbent mayor Farhan Zahedi Robin (AL), Md Manowar Hossain (BNP) and Liyakat Ali (Islami Andolan Bangladesh).

Besides, 38 candidates submitted nomination papers for 9 ward councillors and 10 candidates for 3 women reserved councillor posts.

Returning Officer Golam Mostafa said the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on January 19 and withdrawal on January 26. The election will be held on February 14, he added.
