7 burnt in fire at automobile workshop in city

At least seven people were burnt in a fire incident at an automobile workshop in Gulshan Link Road under Tejgaon industrial area of the capital on Saturday.

The injured were identified as junior engineer of Maple Leaf International Workshop Sakibul Islam Shimul, 25, employee Jewel, 32, Rabiul Islam, 24, Sunam, 20, Private car driver Ali Akbar, 50, Haider Ali, 22, and Rubel Hawlader, 27.

They were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.

Habibur Rahman, the servicing manager of Maple Leaf International Workshop, said the employees were working at a private car in the workshop at around 2:00pm. At one stage, the explosion took place as the engine of the car overheated and the paper and polythene inside the car caught fire.

The fire spread swiftly, leaving the seven burnt.

Doctors said Ali Akbar, Rabiul, Jewel and Rubel were admitted to the hospital as they received 14 to 20 percent burn injuries while the three were released after receiving first aid.

Meanwhile, a duty officer at Fire Service Headquarters' control room, Rasel Sikder, said that they received a message stating that a workshop of Maple Leaf International experienced a massive explosion in Tejgaon.


Being informed, the firefighters rushed to the workshop but the flame was doused by that time.


However, the reason of the fire and extent of damage could not be known immediately.
