Lowest corona cases recorded in 8 months

21 more die, 578 infections detected

The lowest number of coronavirus infection cases has been recorded in the country in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning after eight months.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 578 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 5,27,063.

Earlier, 571 coronavirus infected patients were detected in May last year and 549 cases were detected on April 28.

Twenty-one more corona patients died during the 24-hour period and the total number of deaths from Covid-19 disease has reached 7,883 in the country.

Some 633 more patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 4,71,756.

The DGHS data said the coronavirus death rate has stood at 1.49 percent. On the other hand, the recovery rate has reached 89.51 percent, it added.

The health directorate said 15.30 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 4.73 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day. A total of 12,212 samples, out of 12,215 collected, were tested at 199 labs in the country during the period, the report added.

A total of 34,44,007 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 in the country.
