Ctg youth succumbs to stab injuries

CHATTOGRAM: A youth, who was stabbed over putting up anti-drug posters on January 8, succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

The deceased was Ashiqur Rahman Rohit, 20, student of Omar Gani MES College in the city.

Rohit was stabbed at KDS Goli in Dewan Bazar area when he was returning from campaign for Awami League nominated mayoral candidate M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury for Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nezam Uddin of Bakolia Police Station said that Rohit was a member of a socio-cultural club named ‘Maa Moni Club’ in the city’s Bakolia area. He along with others on January 5 was putting up posters against drugs which were later removed by the criminals, the OC added.

Jahidur Rahman, elder brother of Rohit, filed a case accusing three persons after the attack.  The accused were Md Mohiuddin, 35, Md Babu, 21, and Sahabu,  26,  of Bakolia area.

The accused has been absconding since the incident, OC Nezam said adding that drives were going on to arrest the accused. A video containing statement of Rohit accusing the killers before his death went viral on social media, said sources.

Besides, fellows of Rohit staged demonstration protesting his death in the city’s Chawk Bazar area in the morning.
