Stocks posted a modest gain on Tuesday, as bargain hunters went on buying binge on lucrative issues.
DSEX, prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 142.27 points or 2.49 percent to settle at 5,861 points.The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, surged by 71.02 points or 3.34 per cent to finish at 2,194 points and the DSE Shariah Index gained 25.26 points or 1.95 percent to close at 1,322 points.
Turnover stood at Tk 19.83 billion on the country’s premier bourse, gaining further by 18.32 per cent over previous day’s turnover of Tk 16.76 billion.
Out of 362 issues traded, 195 advanced, 106 declined and 61 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
A total number of 272,041 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 679.989 million shares and mutual fund units.
LankaBangla Finance dominated the turnover chart with 27.73 million shares worth Tk 1.19 billion changing hands, followed by Beximco Pharma, Beximco, LHBL and IFIC Bank.
Dominage Steel Building Systems was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent, closely followed Bangladesh Export Import Company, Robi Axiata, BSRM Steels, Alif Manufacturing Company, BBS Cables and SAIF Powertec.ADN Telecom was the worst loser, losing 9.88 per cent, closely followed by CAPM IBBL Islamic Mutual Fund, Sonali Aansh Industries, Provati Insurance Company, Republic Insurance Company and SEML IBBL Shariah Fund.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange also ended higher with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—gaining 424 points to close at 17,089 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 254 points to close at 10,299.
Of the issues traded, 70 declined, 182 advanced and 39 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 32.86 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of more than Tk 886 million.
