5pc samples carry coronavirus

16 more die, 718 cases detected

The country saw a low number of coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning as five percent samples were diagnosed with the fatal disease.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 718 new cases were detected in the country in the last 24 hours among a total of 14,791 samples.

Sixteen more corona patients died during the period and the total number of deaths from Covid-19 disease has reached 7,819 in the country. On Monday, 22 more corona patients died and 849 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours.

With the fresh detection of 718 cases, the total number of infections has reached 5,24,020 in the country.

Some 963 more patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 4,68,681.

The DGHS data said the coronavirus death rate has stood at 1.49 percent. On the other hand, the recovery rate has reached 89.44 percent, it added.

The health directorate said 15.48 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 5 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 14,791 samples, out of 14,363 collected, were tested at 198 labs in the country during the period, the report added.

A total of 33,85,779 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 in the country.
