Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Tuesday urged the two plaintiffs to withdraw the defamation cases against former mayor of DSCC Sayeed Khokon.

“Two overenthusiastic persons filed the cases. I hope they will withdraw the cases,” Taposh said at a press conference marking the Sakrain festival at his DSCC office in the capital. “I am analyzing the statements (made by Khokon). If needed, I will file a case in the future,” Taposh said.

The mayor said that the cases were filed without his permission. People can make different remarks against a person holding a responsible post, but not everything deserves a response, he said.

“I should not reply to the remarks because I am in responsible position.”

On Monday, a certain Kazi Anisur Rahman and lawyer Sarwar Alam filed the cases at Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court hours after Taposh had declared that he would take legal action against Khokon for making graft allegations against him.

Earlier, DSCC Mayor Taposh visited the ongoing clean-up drive at Maniknagar sluice-gate. While talking to reporters, he said that city dwellers would feel a bit relieved of the scourge of water-logging in the upcoming monsoon season due to the drive.

“Cleaning the city canals is a vast job. There has been no such work for a long time, which has resulted in a heap of waste and blocked the canals,” Mayor Taposh said.
