‘Bangladesh needs to focus on institutional research’

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Monday said that in order to sustain in the international market with an access of diversified export, Bangladesh needs to conduct more institutional research.

Moreover, to be more competitive in the export market, government will support all potential sectors, Commerce Minister added.

Commerce Minister made the comments at a meeting with newly elected Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) President Rizwan Rahman at his secretariat office in the city.

DCCI Senior Vice-President NKA Mobin, and Vice-President Monowar Hossain were also present during the meeting.

Emphasising on boosting SME sector, Commerce Minister said that SMEs are the lifeline of economy contributing about 26 percent to our GDP.

He later assured the chamber President of all support from the ministry for the greater interest of country’s economy.

Tipu Munshi further requested the DCCI President to put forward necessary recommendations from the business community to the ministry for government’s consideration. 

During the discussion, DCCI President Rizwan Rahman urged to allow same fiscal and non-fiscal facilities to all export oriented sectors like RMG sector keeping in mind the LDC graduation of Bangladesh.

 “In the post Brexit era, government can take initiative to sign FTA with the UK,” he added.

DCCI president also laid emphasise on formulating a comprehensive trade policy to boost export diversification.
