Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Sunday said that the remark by former mayor Sayeed Khokon terming him corrupt and ineligible for the mayoral post was not objective but personal.
“If anyone takes bribes, engages in commission business, embezzles government funds or receives money abusing his position of power, it’s corruption. The allegations he have made is not objective," he said. The DSCC mayor made the remarks after laying a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhaka's Dhanmondi 32 on the occasion of Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day. Referring to Sayeed Khokon's claim that DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh is not qualified for the post, Taposh said it is of no importance as it is Khokon's personal views.
"If someone says something based on personal vengeance, it would not be appropriate to respond while holding a responsible position," Taposh said, adding that Khokon is violating the Local Government Act. About the ex-mayor’s claim that the DSCC has failed to pay city corporation employees, he said it is groundless.
