Missing college student’s body found buried

PANCHAGARH: Police recovered the body of a missing college student at Atwaria upazila of the district on Saturday, after five days of his missing.

Deceased Fahid Hasan Sifat, an Intermediate second-year student at Dinajpur Adarsha College, was the son of Safiqul Islam, a resident of Chotodap area in the upazila.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), however, arrested Motiur Rahman, 21, a honours-first-year student of Management Department at Panchagarh MR Government College in this connection.

Safiqul said Fahid went out of home on January 4 for playing badminton and since then, he was missing.

The next day, they got a call from Fahad’s mobile phone demanding Tk 1.5 lakh. It also said his son will return after two weeks.

Safiqul sent them Tk 8,000 through bKash. He, late, filed a general diary and informed RAB.

RAB-13 captain Reza Ahmed Ferdous said they recovered the buried body of Fahad and arrested Motiur in this connection.

During initial interrogation, Matiur confessed that he strangled Fahad and buried him in a field near Fahad’s house.
