Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized snake venom worth Tk 85 crore and arrested five smugglers from Taltola area in the capital’s Khilgaon on Friday afternoon.

A total of 12 pound of snake venom, 6 testing kits and international manuals were seized from the smugglers.

The seized snake venoms were found in different forms such as liquid, crystal and powder.

Acting on a tip-off, the elite force arrested the five, supposedly members of an international snake venom smuggling racket, during a drive in the area, said Imran Khan, senior assistant director (ASP) of Legal and Media Wing in RAB-4.

According to the RAB, the seized venom was brought to Bangladesh from France.

The elite force suspect that the arrestees were using Bangladesh as a route to smuggle the venom into other country.

RAB didn’t disclose the identities of the arrestees.

They are investigating that whether any other people are involved with this smuggling ring.

Earlier on December 25 last, six members of an international snake venom smuggling racket were arrested and snake venom worth Tk 75 crore were seized.
