Iftekhar Fardin Dihan, arrested in connection with rape and murder of an 'O' level student of Mastermind School in Kalabagan area, gave his confessional statement before a Dhaka court on Friday.
Anushka Amin Arna was allegedly killed by her boy friend Dihan and some of his friends following gang-rape at Kalabagan on Thursday afternoon.Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court recorded the statement when police inspector AFM Asaduzzman, also investigating officer of the case, produced him before the court with a plea for recording his statement.
The court recorded the statement under section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and later, he was sent to jail.
CMM court's Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Hemayet Uddin Khan said accused Dihan was produced before the court around 1:00pm on Friday and the magistrate started to record his depositions around 2:00pm.
Earlier, police also sought a 10-day remand for Dihan for interrogation in the case. But he was not placed on the remand as he gave confessional statement before the court.
Victim's father Md Al Amin on Thursday night filed the case with Kalabagan Police Station accusing Anushka's lover Iftekhar Fardin Dihan of killing her daughter after gang-rape.
In the case statement, the plaintiff alleged that Dihan tricked his daughterinto going to his flat and raped her when his family members were not home.
Due to rape, the victim bled profusely and became unconscious. Dihan then took her to hospital to deflect blame, the victim's father alleged.
Kalabagan police arrested four people, including main accused Dihan, immediately after the incident.
Later, Dihan was shown arrested in the case filed by victim's father.
The body, however, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
Abul Hasan, assistant commissioner (New Market Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that Dilhan took Anushka to their Kalabagan flat on Thursday afternoon when his family members were not home.
At one stage, he had sex with the girl but after a while she became unconscious. Then, she was rushed to Anwar Khan Medical College Hospital, he claimed to police, Abul Hasan added.
The police official also said they found sign of rape in inquest report. Actual reason of death would be known after completion of autopsy report, he added.
Meanwhile, around 50 demonstrators have protested against the rape and murder of an O Level student in Dhaka’s Kalabagan area.
They held a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka and ended with a demonstration at Paltan intersection on Friday morning.
Students, youths and activists protested under the banner of ‘Dhorshon O Bicharhinotar Biruddhe Bangladesh’.
They also pressed home the previous nine-point demand of anti-rape protests which include ensuring exemplary punishment of the perpetrators involved in rape and violence against women.
