CHATTOGRAM: The date for submitting report in the graft case filed against suspended OC Pradeep Kumar Das of Teknaf police station and his wife was deferred again on Wednesday.

Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman deferred the date after the investigator of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to submit the report on the fixed date and sought more time, said ACC Prosecutor Mahmudul Haque.

The court set January 10 as the next date for submitting the report, he said.

Besides, a bail petition was also submitted for the accused on Wednesday.

The court also fixed January 10 for hearing on the petition, said the prosecutor.

Mentionable, Assistant Director Md Reaz Uddin of the ACC Chattogram District Integrated Office-2 filed the case against Pradeep and his wife Chumki Karon on August 23 last year for allegation of earning illegal wealth worth about Tk4 crore.

Pradeep earned Tk 39505,635 through bribe and corruption as OC while his wife concealed the information of Tk 1313,175 in the wealth statement, alleged the plaintiff in the case.

The case was filed under section 26 (2) of the Anti-Corruption Act-2004, section 109 of Penal Code, section 27 (1) of Money Laundering Act  and section 4 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act-1947.

Sources said the ACC launched an inquiry on charge of amassing illegal wealth against OC Pradeep and his wife in 2018. But the inquiry was halted due to unknown reason. The inquiry resumed after Pradeep was sent to jail in connection with the murder of retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on July 31.

The deceased’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed the murder case accusing nine persons including Pradeep and the then Shamlapur Investigation Centre Inspector Liakat Ali in this connection.
