Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Sunday hinted that they are preparing a guideline on vaccination against Covid-19.

“We will have to take preparation from now to bring the highest number of DNCC residents under the coverage of the vaccination as Bangladesh is expecting to get the vaccine by the end of this month or next month,” he said during a coordination meeting at its office.

High officials and councilors of DNCC and representatives from different non-government organisations took part in the meeting. The mayor said that the first consignment of 30 million doses of the vaccine for 15 million people will reach Bangladesh by the end of this month or in the beginning of the upcoming month from Serum Institute of India.

“With the help of COVAX, another consignment of 60 million doses for 30 million people will arrive in Bangladesh in the middle of the year,” he informed.

He also said, “The government is also contracting the manufacturing firm to purchase the vaccine directly. We are hoping that a mentionable number of the total population will come under the coverage of the vaccination programme.”

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office has formed a committee of DNCC area with the mayor as president of the committee.

“Making list of the front liners in the fight against Covid-19, including the health professionals, the people with lack of immunity, adult citizens who have been suffering from chronic disease is the duty of the committee,” DNCC Mayor Atiqul added.

He also said that the committee will implement and monitor the vaccination programme and take necessary measures to maintain law and order in the centers.
