Produce more food to avert crisis: Minister

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque on Sunday stressed the need for producing more food for the sake of the country.

“We will have to produce our own food. If food crisis or famine occurs due to ongoing corona pandemic, it will be difficult to get food despite having enough money,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while exchanging views with officials of the Ministry of Agriculture on the occasion of the New Year.

Abdur Razzaque said the main challenge of the food security is that the population of the country is increasing by 22-23 lakhs every year as the number of cultivable land is decreasing due to various reasons.

“Besides human being, we have to provide food for animals. That’s why everyone serving in the agriculture department will have to work with more sincerity and dedication,” he said.

The minister further said, “The officers should not just do the usual work, sitting in the ministry. Rather they will have to visit field level areas regularly. We have utilised potential of different regions so that agriculture production can be further increased. ”

Abdur Razzaque thanked everyone, for the ministry secured second position in the APA twice in a row and said, “Despite this success, we all must be more active and dedicated in implementing the APA.”

The Ministry of Agriculture has secured the second position for the implementation of the Annual Performance Agreement (APA) in the fiscal year 2019-20. Twice in a row, the ministry ranked second out of 51 ministries/divisions in performing APA.

Agriculture Ministry Additional Secretary (extension wing) Md Hasanuzzaman Kallol, Addition Secretary (PPP) Dr Md Abdur Rouf, Additional Secretary (Research Wing) Kamalaranjan Das and other officials were also present.
