Huge cache of Yaba seized, 3 arrested

CHATTOGRAM: Police arrested three drug peddlers with 1,46,000 Yaba tablets from Anwara upazila in the district on Thursday.

The arrestees were identified as Mahmudul Hoque, 23, Md Ibrahim, 26, and Jahed Hossain, 25, of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chattogram district police SM Rashidul Hoque disclosed this at a press conference held at district police lines in the city’s Halishahar area on Thursday.

The SP said on receiving information, members of Patiya and Anwara police stations jointly set up a check-post on Anwara-Banshkhali Road in Kalabibi Dighir Parr under the upazila 7:25am.

Police signalled two suspicious motorbikes at the check-post. But, they tried to flee the scene. Policemen caught them after a chase, the SP added.

Later, a total of 1,46,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and five mobile phones were recovered from their possession, he said adding that they also seized two bikes.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they had been carrying the Yaba pills from Cox’s Bazar to supply to Chattogram for Tk 300,000, Rashidul said.

They are trying to find out the source and destination of the drugs, said the officer.

 A case was filed in this connection, he added.

Additional SP (Admin) Mashiuddola Reza, Additional SP (DSB) Mohiuddin Mahmud Sohel, Additional SP (Patiya Circle) Tariq Rahman and Officer in-Charge SM Didarul Islam Sikder of Anwara police station were present at the press conference among others.
