Happy birthday, Nurjahan Alim

Today is the birthday of country’s one of the leading folk singers Nurjahan Alim, daughter of folk maestro Abdul Alim. 

Her fans, friends, and well-wishers have sent greeting messages to the singer as she turns another year older.

Celebrities and her co-artistes also take to the social media and shower love on Nurjahan Alim with birthday wishes.

Daily sun also wishes her happy birthday.

Talking about her birthday, Nurjahan Alim said “There is no special plan to celebrate my birthday this year. I will spend the day with my family members.”

 A popular folk singer of the country Nurjahan Alim was born in Dhaka on December 23.

Nurjahan Alim got her inspiration in music from her father Abdul Alim. Later, she learnt music from other renowned ustads like ‘Akhter Sadmani’, ‘Nazrul Islam’ etc. She also got trained in classical music under ‘Ustad Anup Barua’ in Chhayanaut.

Nurjahan became champion in 1986 in ‘Notun Kuri’ broadcast on Bangladesh Television. Her first solo album of songs titled ‘Majhi’ was released in 2014 and her second solo album ‘Jare Chere’ - a tribute to Abdul Alim, was released in February, 2017.

She has received many awards, including, ‘Abbas Uddin Sharok’ ‘Pen Pulse Club Award’, ‘Badshah Khalid Award’ Progoti Shango Awrad, Abdul Hai Mashreki Gold Medal and Shamaj Bandhu award from Bangladesh welfare foundation of USA, etc.

Nurjahan has performed in many stage shows at home and aboard like Assam folk conference in Guwahati, India, 2nd United Bangla Mela in Canada, ‘Boishakhi Utshob’ in UAE, AEBA conference in Malaysia, Singapore and India, International Folk Fest in Dhaka etc. She regularly performs in Bangladesh Betar and different TV Channels of Bangladesh.
