Govt allocates Tk 10bn to pay sugarcane growers

The government has allocated Tk 10 billion to pay sugarcane price to the farmers.

The conditional allocation has been given in favour of sugar mills under Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) as operational capital.

Confirming the allocation finance division sent a letter to the secretary of ministry of industries on Monday.

According to the letter the Ministry of Industries will have to recommend releasing the money in favor of BSFIC's sugar mills.

The budget wings of Finance Division for the fiscal year 2020-21 gave the conditional allocation.  Allocated money cannot be spent on any sector other than sugarcane price of sugarcane farmers only.  The Chartered Accountant Firm has to audit the detailed account of allocated money expenditure and send its report to the Finance Division within the next 3 months.
