At least seven people, including a bride, have died after a trawler full of wedding guests capsized in the Meghna river under Hatiya upazila in Noakhali on Tuesday.
The identities of the deceased, which include four female and two kids, could not be known immediately.Members of River police and Coast Guard with the help of local people recovered seven bodies hours after the tragic incident.
Police said a rescue operation is now underway as several others still remain missing.
Hatiya Police Station inspector (probe) Kanchan Kanti Das said the tragic incident took place when the trawler carrying the wedding guests numbering about 80 to 85 was on its way to Monpura.
Most of the wedding members have so far managed to swim ashore while several others remain still missing.
Constable Sohag, who took part in the rescue operation, told the journalists that around 30 passengers have so far been rescued.
