Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said communal evil forces will have to be eradicated as they are still hatching conspiracies against the country.

“Communal forces are still hatching conspiracies against the country. On this Martyred Intellectuals Day, it will be our pledge to eliminate all communal evil elements from the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, told reporters after paying homage to martyred intellectuals at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial marking the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day.

The minister also called upon pro-liberation forces to build resistance unitedly against such cliques.

Talking over Ziaur Rahman’s sculptures, Quader said there are Ziaur Rahman’s sculptures in different places in the country but Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is keeping mum about it. “It is crystal clear that BNP remains silent as it has been backing the communal forces from behind,” he said.

“It has been proved that BNP is the patrons of these communal forces and militancy,” he said.

Earlier, Quader along with party’s central leaders paid homage to martyred intellectuals by placing a wreath at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial.

Later, AL general secretary, on behalf of his party, paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by laying a wreath at his portrait at Dhanmondi road number 32.

AL leaders Matia Chowdhury, Abdur Razzaque, Shajahan Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Ahmad Hossain, SM Kamal Hossain and Mirza Azam, Sujit Roy Nandi, Asim Kumar Ukil, Rokeya Sultana, Abdus Sabur, Sayem Khan, Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Shahabuddin Farazi and Anisur Rahman, among others, were present at that time.
