As many as 101 former secretaries and high officials of the government have strongly condemned and protested the disrespect and vandalism of a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
They have also expressed their resentment against the activities of fundamentalists over the installation of Bangabandhu’s sculptures across the country, a press release signed by AKM Shamim Chowdhury, former press secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said on Monday. They said any disrespect to Bangabandhu is similar to an attack on sovereign Bangladesh.
“Fundamentalists are out to create confusion by unleashing falsehood and provocative remarks,” the statement mentioned.
Talking about the attack on Bangabandhu’s sculpture in Kushtia, they have termed it ‘a sedition offence’.
“They are collaborators of fundamentalists, militants and killers involved in the 1975 carnage,” it said, adding they should be tried for such a heinous crime.
They also called upon all to remain vigilant against such acts.
