Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday urged two city corporations to prepare reports by January 15 on how to turn the capital into a beautiful and modern one.
Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, made the statement while addressing a board meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority.He joined the meeting virtually from his official residence on parliament premises in the capital.
The minister came up with the remarks as two mayors of Dhaka south and north city corporations promised in their electoral manifestos to build the city as a beautiful and modern one.
Quader said, “It is possible to beautify the city with our own fund like the Padma Multipurpose Bridge.”
That government would do everything necessary to turn Dhaka into a green and clean city. He urged the two mayors to make plan realistically.
The minister also urged the authorities concerned to take action to stop battery-powered auto-rickshaws and easy bike with the help of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He called upon the authorities concerned to make a new proposal on route permit by analyzing existing law and rule.Action should be taken against those who are using hooters illegally, he said.
DSCC Mayor Fazle Noor Tapash, DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam, Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Nazrul Islam and Bridges Division Secretary Belayet Hossain, among others, were present.
