Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ranked 39th on the Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most powerful women of 2020. She has already earned this prestigious recognition from the famous American business magazine a number of times.

In her own right, by dint of wisdom, patience and extraordinary political acumen, Sheikh Hasina has turned herself into the undisputed leader of not only her party Awami League, but also of Bangladesh. She is the longest-serving prime minister in the history of Bangladesh, and is currently serving her fourth term, which is also her third consecutive term, as her party won 288 of the 300 parliamentary seats.

She has been leading the country from the front braving all odds and the people of the country have witnessed her bold steps on many occasions. For example, she didn’t backtrack from holding the trials of war criminals of 1971 despite enormous pressure from various international quarters.

The fate of the 160 million’s dream Padma Bridge had become uncertain due to local and foreign conspiracies, but that bridge is now fully visible, only fine-tuning remains. When donors reneged on their pledges of financing the Padma bridge project on unsubstantiated corruption allegations, it was none other than Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who stood firm and showed the guts to self finance the project.

Today as the bridge is on the verge of becoming a reality the nation’s level of self-confidence has broadened that we too can develop mega projects with our own fund. The sole credit for making this happen goes to Sheikh Hasina.

This is how she proves her critics wrong – by making things happen. When they go low, she goes high. When they show the height of their hypocrisy, she shows the height of her vision.

That is why today Sheikh Hasina is highly acclaimed in the international arena as a successful statesman. As recognition of her contribution to promoting world peace, democracy and development, she has been given a host of international awards that include the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award 2020. Before that she has been praised as “Vaccine Hero”, “Mother of Humanity” and “The New Star of the East” – to name a few. A few years earlier an international organisation named People and Politics recognised Hasina as the world’s 3rd most honest leader.

True patriotism, far-sightedness, unflinching attitude, hard work and other human qualities earned her recognition as a world leader. Therefore, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s achievements make us proud as a nation because her achievements are synonymous with the achievements of Bangladesh. We wish her a long and healthy life.
