Death toll from coronavirus nears 7,000

The numbers of coronavirus infection cases and deaths have been increasing across the country while the total number of deaths from the deadly virus neared 7,000.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,861 new cases were detected in the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Thursday, raising the total number to 4,10,452.

Thirty-seven more corona patients died during the 24-hour period while the total number of deaths from Covid-19 disease has reached 6,967 in the country.

Some 4,486 more patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 4,85,965.

The DGHS data said the coronavirus death rate has stood at 1.43 percent. On the other hand, the recovery rate has reached 84.46 percent, it added.

The health directorate said 16.60 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 11.44 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.

A total of 16,265 samples, out of 16,600 collected, were tested at 140 labs in the country during the period, the report added.

A total of 29,27,929 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.

The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 while the first death was recorded on March 18 in the country.
