A cylinder-like bomb weighing around 250 kg, which was believed to be dropped during the War of Liberation in 1971, was recovered while digging for the work on the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Wednesday.

Workers found the object around three metres deep into the ground in the afternoon, said airport Director Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan.

Upon information, a team of the bomb disposal unit of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) reached there and recovered it, he said.

The BAF team suspected that the object was a wartime one and it is still alive.

The object was sent to Muktagachha airbase in Mymensingh for deactivation, Touhid said, adding that spot or the third terminal which is outside the main area of the airport is now safe.
