BEZA awards 30 acres of land to 3 cos

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has awarded 30 acres of land to Maksons Group at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN).

BEZA awarded 10 acres of land each for the group’s three separate entities including Metro Spinning, Maksons Spinning Mills and Maksons Spinning Mills-2 to set up industries at the country’s biggest ever economic zones in Mirsharai.

As part of it, BEZA and Maksons Group on Monday signed a land lease agreement at a city hotel, said a press release.

BEZA executive member Md Abdul Mannan and Metro Spinning Ltd representative Md Showkot Ali and Maksons Group Chairman Mohammad Ali Khokon signed the agreement of behalf of their respective sides.

BEZA executive chairman Paban Chowdhury was present on the occasion as chief guest.

Sources at BEZA said that the three companies will invest around $112.89 million in the zone which will create around 4,000 jobs in new factories.

Metro Spinning will set up a spinning mill over the land with an expected investment of $40 million.

Besides, Maksons Spinning will invest $30 million to set up a textile mill and Maksons Spinning Mills-2 will invest $41 million to set up its second unit at the zone.

Speaking as chief guest, Paban Chowdhury said that BEZA has completed all the procedures for building up a garment village on 500 acres of land at the BSMSN.

He also said that BEZA is ensuring all sorts of services to the investors in the economic zones under one stop service window.  Investors at home and abroad have been expressing their interest to invest in the economic zones, he added.

BSMSN  has  been  conceptualized  to  be  built    on    a    contiguous    land  of  30,000 acres in Mirsharai and Feni and  it  has  motivated  organizations  to  dream  in  a  bigger  canvas.

In total, around 200 investment proposals have been received for the BSMSN with 76 coming from local garment makers.
