The sugar mills are continuously losing money due to lack of adequate supply of high sugar rich sugarcane and modern management.

Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation issued a notice in this regard.

At present, the sugar mills have become old and dilapidated causing a significant impact on the rate of sugar extraction from sugarcane.

Of the 15 sugar mills under the corporation, the government suspended the sugarcane threshing activities of six in 2020-21 for modernizing.

The sugarcane produced as in the previous year will be procured from the farmers at the procurement center and sent for threshing under the supervision of the nearest running mill.

No sugarcane farmer will be affected due to suspension of threshing activities of these mills.

In addition, the workers and officers working in the suspended sugar mills will be adjusted in phases through transfers against the vacancies in the existing sugar mills.
