Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) has protested the recent discussions that have come up amid the debate regarding the setting up of a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

While differentiating sculpture and statue some people are intentionally hurting their religious sentiments, said a press release issued by the council.

In a statement signed by council’s Chairman Ushatan Talukder, acting Chairmen Professor Dr Neem Chandra Bhowmik and Nirmal Rozario, and General Secretary Advocate Rana Dasgupta, the council said, Hindus of Bangladesh have been worshipping their gods and goddesses making their idols for years.

Besides, Buddhists and Christians are also conducting their prayers before the statues of Gautama Buddha and Jesus Christ. But the recent ‘sculpture-statue’ debate is undermining their feeling which is a matter of grave concern and pain. The unity council asks all to stop making such derogatory remarks by spreading hatred.
