17 killed in road crashes in dists

At least 17 people were killed in separate road accidents in different districts in the country on Friday.

Of the deceased, seven people were killed in Manikganj district, six in Tangail, one in Dhaka city, one in Narsingdi and one in Bhola district.

In Manikganj, at least seven people were killed and several others injured in a road accident at Mulkandi in Daulatpur upazila of Manikganj district on Friday afternoon. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim said: "Six members of a family and a driver of a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw were killed when the three-wheeler collided head-on with a bus in Mulkandi area around 2:30 pm. Six people died on the spot, while another died on way to hospital."

In Tangail, at least six people were killed and 10 others injured after a truck hit a stationary bus in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail on Friday morning.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway in Ichail area of the upazila around 7:00am.

Three of the deceased were identified as-- Ashraful Islam, 34, son of Joynal Hossain from Pirganj upazila or Rangpur, Sirajul, 31, son of Parvez Ali, and Chunnu, 32, son of Ratan Ali.

Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirzapur Gorai highway police station, said the incident occurred when a Dhaka-bound vegetable-laden truck hit the passenger bus of ‘Seba Classic Paribahan’ that broke down on Dhaka-Tangail highway, leaving 4 dead on the spot and 12 others injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Kumudini Hospital where duty- doctor decaled two of them dead. The death toll might rise as some of the injured are in critical condition, the OC added.

Meanwhile, a college student Iftekhar Ifti, 18, was killed and another injured when a running truck hit them in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Friday morning.

The body of the deceased was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy. The injured Ananto Barua is now undergoing treatment at DMCH. 

A pedestrian Alal Fakir, 65, was killed while crossing the road in Natore-Banpara highway on Friday. 

In another incident, one person named Yusuf Ali 60 was killed in a head-on-collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a shallow engine-run nasimon in Shibganj upazila in Narsingdi on Friday.

In another incident, motorcyclist Nizamuddin Miron, 45, was killed when a trolley hit him in front of Bhola-Charfashion highway on Friday.
