A ‘love drama’ by a college girl has helped detective police capture two fraudsters, one of whom scammed the girl out of Tk 51,000, in Rajshahi city when they came to meet her from Bhanga Upazila in Faridpur.

A team of detective police arrested the duo -- Hasan Khan, 19, and his accomplice Mahmud Hasan alias Bayezid, 19, -- at Laxmipur crossing in the city on Sunday.

Hasan Khan swindled the girl out of the money through bKash forgery. Later, she complained to police and they asked her to pretend to be in love with him, which will help them to arrest the cheat.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Abu Ahammad Al Mamun said on November 16, Hasan Khan called the girl and said he is a teacher of her college.

“The imposter then said that the government is providing scholarships for those who have bKash account during this pandemic. Account holder must have Tk 50,000 in his account to get the scholarship,” the DC said.

Hasan Khan then tricked the victim into giving him the PIN number of her bKash account and cheated the girl out of the money.

As per the suggestion, the girl called Hasan Khan from another phone number and started conversation with him.  The conman soon fell in love with her. He finally agreed to meet her after 12 days of their ‘relationship’.

As Hasan Khan along with his accomplice came to meet the girl in Laxmipur crossing, detectives in plain clothes nabbed the two, said Al Mamun.

Police also seized Tk 76,000 from them.
