Six robbers arrested with arms, booties

CHATTOGRAM: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested six members of a robber gang with firearms and looted valuables from Cox's Bazar on Sunday.

The arrestees were identified as ringleader Md Yahia alias Joynal, 26, Solim Ullah, 33, Saber Ahmed, 29, Abul Kalam, 30, Shah Aman, 28, and Md Abdullah, 25, hailed from Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar districts.

Rab-7 Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Col Mashiur Rahman Jewel disclosed these at a press conference at Rab-7 Chandgaon camp in the port city on Monday.

On receiving information, Rab personnel arrested the ringleader Yahia with a one-shooter-gun, bullet and sharp weapon from Cox’s Bazar on Sunday afternoon.

Acting on his statement, they arrested five other members of the gang from different areas of Cox’s Bazar.  A total of 20 mobile phones, two pieces of gold ornaments, cash money and foreign currencies were recovered from their possessions, said the Rab CO.

The arrestees also admitted that they were involved in two more robberies on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway on November 5 and November 12, Jewel said.

Rab-7 Chandgoan camp Company Commander Flight Lieutenant Ali Ashraf Tushar, ASP Mahmudul Hasan Mamun and Md Raqibul Hasan were present at the press conference among others.
