UCB Investment starts its journey

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam poses for a photo after inaugurating UCB Investment in the capital on Monday. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury Ronny, Chairman of Executive Committee of UCB was also present on the occasion.

UCB Investment Limited, a subsidiary of United Commercial Bank Limited, was inaugurated at a city hotel on Sunday.

Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, Chairman, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) inaugurated the launching as chief guest.

Anisuzzaman Chowdhury Ronny, Chairman, Executive Committee, UCB; Prof. Dr. Md. Jonaid Shafiq and Shawkat Jamil, UCB Managing Director Mohammed were present as special guests.

Tanzim Alamgir, CEO, UCB Investment Limited, other officials from UCB and various eminent dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, BSEC chairman Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam said that Bangladesh has made significant improvement in its economic position than the south Asian countries.

“The role of merchant bank in developing our capital market and economic development is huge. I think this is high time to take initiative like UCB Investment Limited”, he said.

He expressed hope that UCB Investment Limited will play a vital role to assist the professional financial management services in the country.

Anisuzzaman Chowdhury Ronny, Chairman, UCB Executive Committee, said that, UCB Capital Management, a branch of UCB's stock brokerage, has risen from 63rd position to second position in the last five years.

UCB is one of the pioneers in raising funds for special projects of Bangladesh Bank and till now UCB has invested the largest amount of money from that special fund among all private commercial banks.

“We are also optimistic about UCB Investment Limited, a subsidiary of United Commercial Bank Limited,” added Anisuzzaman Chowdhury.

 Managing Director of UCB Mohammed Shawkat Jamil said that United Commercial Bank is working for the development of capital market in Bangladesh. So far, UCB has a total portfolio of 1100+ crore taka in the capital market.
