Jamalpur Sports Academy beat Tetulia Upazila Sports Association by 33-27 goals to register their second win in the ongoing Walton first Women Federation Cup Handball Competition 2020 at Shaheed (Captain) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium on Sunday.
In the day’s other matches, Police Handball club also secured their second victory beating Faridpur DSA by 32-8 goals and Naogaon DSA beat Jessore DSA by 28-7 goals. A total of eight teams, split into three groups, are taking part in the 8-day meet. Group A comprises Police, Ansar and VDP, Faridpur DSA and Handball Training Center Dhaka while Group B comprises Jamalpur Sports Academy, Naogaon DSA, Jessore DSA and Tetulia Upazila Sports Association.The top two teams from each group will reach semi-finals on Dec 1 and 2 while the third-place decider and final will be held on Dec 3 and 5 respectively, all at the same venue. The champions will be awarded Tk 15,000, the runners-up team Tk 10,000 and the third-placed team Tk 5,000. Sponsors Walton Group is providing jerseys to the participating teams.
Earlier, the meet kicked-off on Saturday. The Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury formally inaugurated the meet as the chief guest.
On the opening day matches, Jamalpur SA beat Naogaon DSA by 22-15 goals, Faridpur DSA beat Handball Training Center Dhaka by 26-14 goals, Tetulia Upazila Sports Association beat Jessore DSA by 35-17, Police Handball club beat Handball Training Center Dhaka by 48-7 and Bangladesh Ansar and VDP beat Faridpur DSA by 37-6 goals.
