RMG official arrested for not paying workers

Police arrested a director of a readymade garment (RMG) factory from Rupnagar in the capital on Saturday night on charges of non-payment of salary arrears to 69 workers.

The arrestee was identified as Marium Hossain, director of Amar Fashion Ltd at Birulia in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.

Marium’s husband Mosaddek Hossain, who hailed from Cumilla, is the managing director of the RMG factory. AFM Sayeed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, said on behalf of 69 workers of the factory, worker Shafikul Islam filed a case with the police station on November 10.

According to the case statement, the factory authorities appointed 69 workers in August but did not pay their salaries till October 25. On October 26, the authorities suddenly closed the factory without paying their salary arrears amounting to Tk 21 lakh.

A team of Savar police arrested Mosaddek and Marium.
